A new computer!

After months (if not years) of "acting up" and causing me much pain & grief, earlier this week my Dell Inspiron 5150 finally just up & died - although I was a bit distraught over the fact that I lost tons of pictures I had scanned in & some of my college work, I was pretty psyched when I realized that I'd more than likely be buying a new computer.

After doing a bit of research online at work, and talking to a few people who seemed pretty knowledgeable, we bought a laptop a few nights ago - an HP Pavilion DV2000 with Windows Vista. Although I was very skeptical of buying a computer with Windows Vista this early in the game, I decided to take the plunge. I'm pleased to say that after 2 days of fairly heavy use - I'm pretty impressed with both Windows Vista and the HP Pavilion DV2000. Not only is this laptop fast - but it's quiet & has tons of features that my Dell didn't.

I like the fact that it's pretty lightweight (around 5 lbs or so) and then it puts off virtually no heat when running. I also like the single touch conrols at the top of the laptop near the screen - that allow you to operate the DVD/CD player, volume controls, etc.

As it turns out, my Dell laptop is fixable - all it needs is a new hard drive and a reload of the operating system - but I'm still glad we went ahead and purchased a new laptop as I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the Dell dies again. Meanwhile, we'll use it as a backup computer - the kids can use it for their homework, for surfing the web, downloading their music files, etc.
